I’m a good person. Why do I need a savior?

faq7

Many people have a misunderstanding about this subject.  At one time, I was one of those people.  I thought if I did more good than bad, then I was fine and would go to Heaven.  God would see that I was a good person and everything would be fine.  But the truth is no one is good enough to stand before God. We need a mediator to stand between us and God. Hebrews 7:25 states: “He is able to save completely those who come to God through him [Jesus], because He always lives to intercede for them.” God sent his son Jesus to save us from ourselves and save us from sin.  Jesus rescued us and paid the price for all of our sins.

Just being a good person is not the way to God.  We have to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and confess that He died for our sins.  Then we must believe with all our hearts that Jesus did this act because He loved us and wanted to redeem us in the eyes of His father.  We are not saved by our deeds (being a good person), we are saved by grace.

There is no way that our mind can conceive or figure out how God thinks and feels about us.  He always has our best interest on His mind.  As long as we depend on our own selves to survive, we are saying to God that we don’t need you, we don’t need your love, we don’t need to trust you, and we don’t need your help.  This is a recipe for disaster. Nothing will work the right way without God; He is always working on our behalf.

When we are separated from God and His promises, we can find ourselves in a hopeless situation. Until you and I realize that we are not big enough to take care of ourselves and the problems we face, not smart enough to guide ourselves through life, and until we realize that God’s plan is better on a global scale, we will die as a copy of the world and not as an original masterpiece of God.

If God would show you a short video clip of the life that He ordained for you, you would see a life of joy, peace, tranquility, fulfillment, purpose, and with the greatest achievements.  What could be different about your life now with Him leading the way? Leading the life He has mapped out for you will allow you to touch the lives of many.  You cannot do this on your own and that was intentionally part of His plans.  Can you imagine yourself full of God’s faith at all times, ready to believe the impossible?  What a life would that be?  If a person is not experiencing all of God’s promises, He is shorting himself.

Back to the question: if I’m a good person, why do I need a savior?  Because without God, who we are and what we do has no meaning and we are destined to die alone.  We will live in pain, hurt, disappointment, lack, failure, confusion, loss and without hope. And eventually face the second death which is the separation of God’s presence forever.  God will be erased from the mind like He never existed.

Let’s look at some scripture about why we need a savior. Romans 3:10-18 has a word that I want you to pay attention to.  The word is righteous.  We need to be righteous.  In the Mirriam-Webster dictionary we find righteous to mean “moral, right, or justifiable before God and standing in the presence of God in total morality like we never sinned.”  A righteous person is someone that is totally God minded.  We are no where close to any of this without the only savior Jesus Christ.

As we continue in Romans, our condition only worsens.  Romans 3:23 states:  for all [EVERYONE] have sinned and fall short [fail to obtain] of the glory of God.  Ellicott’s Commentary for English Readers discusses this verse in detail.  I highly recommend that you read this commentary and the other commentaries that can be found at the same link for additional information.

Because of the state we were in, someone had to die and pay for our sins.   Mirriam-Webster dictionary defines the word savior as a person who saves someone from danger.   So who is this savior?   It is Jesus Christ.  He is the redeemer of sin and savior of souls.  A long time ago, God promised that He would send a savior.  Luke 2:11 proclaims: for unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.  Acts 5:31 describes Jesus our savior and the forgiver of sins.  Other verses that talk about Jesus as our savior are Acts 13:23 and 2 Timothy 1:10.

The problem of sin has been paid by Jesus coming into this world and being our savior.  All He asks of every person alive is to receive what He has offered.  Jesus offered Himself as a gift from the Father. Everyone who accepts Him will reap the benefit of this wonderful salvation and righteousness which allows us to stand in the presence of God like we had never sinned.  Hallelujah!!!  I personally received him as Lord of my life in 1994 and I have discovered that the benefits are endless.  I am being changed everyday by His love.  The reason this website has come to life is because of His great love and my dedication to serve him as Lord and Savior of my life.

If you have not already received this gift, I urge you to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior so He can take you to your God given destiny and purpose.  Use Romans 10:9-11 as a guide.  Declare this scripture aloud and with a sincere heart.  It is one decision you will never regret.
