Yesterday we discussed the first three Trumpet Judgments. These judgments are all supernatural and obviously judgments from God. A third of the grass and trees has been burned, the seas became blood, and the waterways turned bitter.
The fourth Trumpet Judgment involves the sun, the moon, and the stars. Revelation 8:12-13 says: a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened, and a third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night. Every element of the earth that we deem essential to our everyday life has now been affected by the Trumpet Judgments. This judgment is similar to the 9th plague of Egypt (Exodus 7:16-21).
The next three judgments are so severe that they are announced by an angel. Revelation 8:13: “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!”
The fifth Trumpet Judgment and the first woe is where we start to see supernatural beings invading the earth. Revelation 9:1-11 tells of the horrors of Apollyon and his demonic locusts. A star falls from Heaven and opens the bottomless pit. These lets loose a swarm of demonic locusts. These locusts are described in Revelation 9:7-10 “like horses prepared for battle: on their heads were what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, their hair like women’s hair, and their teeth like lions’ teeth; they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the noise of their wings was like the noise of many chariots with horses rushing into battle. They have tails and stings like scorpions” These locusts will have power to harm unbelievers for 5 months and their sting will last for 5 months. During this time, those who are stung will wish to die but will be unable to.
The sixth Trumpet Judgment and second woe is another demonic attack. Revelation 9:13-19 gives a description of this event. Four angels who were specially created for this very day will command an army of 200 million demons who will go forth on the earth to kill a third of the population. These creatures are described in Revelation 9:17 by John: And this is how I saw the horses in my vision and those who rode them: they wore breastplates the color of fire and of sapphire and of sulfur, and the heads of the horses were like lions’ heads, and fire and smoke and sulfur came out of their mouths… For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails, for their tails are like serpents with heads, and by means of them they wound. By the time this judgment is finished, half of the earth’s population will have been wiped out.
The seventh Trumpet Judgment and third woe introduces the seven Bowl Judgments that are coming next. Revelation 11:19: Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant was seen within his temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake, and heavy hail.
We are now at the mid-point of the Tribulation. Tomorrow we will look at the assassination of the Two Witness and the Antichrist. We will also see the indwelling of the Antichrist by Satan himself. Don’t miss the next chapter of the prophecy.
