We finished yesterday with the 1,000 year Millennial Kingdom. Satan has been released on the Millennial Kingdom and again has failed to overthrow God. The only event left if the Great White Throne Judgment.
We know after death everyone will stand before God and be judged for what has been done in this lifetime. The Great White Throne Judgment is that time. Revelation 20:11-12: Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.
Let’s break these verses down so we understand what is happening:
- Who is seated on the Great White Throne Judgment? God will appoint one person to judge the world. John 5:22: For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son. Jesus is who will judge everyone.
- Who is being judged? We know that the dead in Christ were resurrected during the rapture. The only dead left behind are those who have died without knowing Jesus as their Savior. The Great White Throne Judgment is for them.
- What will be used to judge the dead? Three books are used to determine the final judgment: the Books of Man’s Works, the Book of Life, and the Lamb’s Book of Life.
So the unbelieving dead will be resurrected and will receive their final judgment. These unbelieving dead have already been in torment after their “first” death because they have no spiritual life (Luke 16:19-31). Once the Millennial Kingdom is over, they will receive their “second” death at judgment day.
Jesus uses three books to judge the dead:
Book of Man’s Works: This book is a complete record of every person deeds that have been recorded for the purpose of judgment (Revelation 20:12).- Book of Life: This book contains the names of every person who has lived or ever lived. This book is considered God’s book of everyone He has created (Exodus 32:33). Because of sin, a person’s name can be “blotted out” of this book.
- Lamb’s Book of Life: This book contains the names of every person who has ever received Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This is referred to as God the Son’s book (Revelation 13:8). Once you have accepted Jesus, your name will not be erased from this book because of sin (Revelation 3:5).
Every unbeliever will look upon the one he or she rejected and will look Him in the eye. Jesus will use these books to decide a person’s ultimate fate. If their name isn’t in the Lamb’s Book of Life, they are thrown into the Lake of Fire for their “second” death.
After this, death and Hades are also thrown into the Lake of Fire along with Satan and his fallen angels (Revelation 20:14).
We then enter the Eternal State. Both Heaven and earth will go through destruction and a new Heaven and earth will be formed. There will also be a new Jerusalem. All things will be made new, there will be no sun, no longer any curse, and believers will be able to see the Father face-to-face (Revelation 22:4).
The best part of all of this: We will spend eternity with Jesus!
