Everything we are involved in, listen to, and the habits we choose eventually will become the testimony of your life. We are in the process of building our testimony every day. Right now someone is looking at our lives, either wanting to follow the way we live or stay away from our lifestyle. At times, we aren’t even aware of who is watching us.
I would like to direct your attention to those people that you may know that have influenced you in your life for the better. It could be someone you know: a great mentor, a teacher, a coach, a public figure, or even a family member. God has assigned people in our lives to look up to and embrace their teachings. We learn from their experiences and they leave a legacy that will inspire others to follow.
As I look back on my own life, amazing things have happened as I surrounded myself with men and women who are known well because of their good character. They have shaped their lives around being doers of God’s word and not just hearers. They have made their testimony a priority. When they go to be with Jesus, they will leave not only a legacy based on God and character, but also a testimony for others to follow.
Here are a few points to follow:
- Give your heart to God’s counsel and word.
- Meditate on the outcome of doing good.
- Associate yourself with people who live in God’s influence so you will learn new habits and develop good character.
- Focus on creating an atmosphere where the love of God has freedom to reign.
- Demonstrate the value of seeing others complete in Christ not lacking anything.
- Approach life with how you can give to others not from what you can take from them.
- Everywhere you go leave a mark of good influence by offering a smile or to help. Be a servant.
One of my favorite Bible stories is Peter. Jesus helped Peter to believe in the impossible. Peter, a fisherman by profession, had Jesus as his coach and counselor. Peter also went on to be one of the more influential disciples of Jesus. For 3 years, Jesus helped build Peter’s character and shape him for his upcoming ministry. Jesus helped Peter to develop a testimony from being a fisherman to becoming a fisher of men.
It took Jesus’s time and dedication, but he never doubted the idea that Peter could leave a legacy and testimony for other to follow. This took dedication on both sides. Jesus doesn’t doubt that every person with the right coaching and mentoring could leave a testimony for others to follow and to be inspired by. I can only imagine how many people have followed Jesus’s example of goodness.
In the book of Acts, we see that Peter has changed into a new leader and with a new will to preach the gospel. In Acts 2:14-36, Peter gave a speech that will forever change generations to come. After Jesus’s crucifixion, Peter began to understand his true calling and knew he was next in line to carry Jesus’s word and story into the whole world.
By surrounding yourself with people of great character and influence, you will have a greater desire to also do the same. At the end of the day you will be proud of yourself, refreshed, fulfilled, and motivated to do it all over again.
Is it possible? Absolutely. Be committed to give your testimony. Your testimony is your speech of the transformation of God’s grace and goodness to people.
