(This is a letter that Dot wrote for her children who took part in the women’s march on Washington a couple of months ago. She wanted to share the ideas of the letter with our readers.)
It is alright to march for something you believe in or even protest. But I am concerned that you do not get caught up in the slander and anger narrative of slamming the President or the leader of anything you are a member of. It is like killing the pilot while in mid-air on the plan you are flying in.
The Lord told Brother [Kenneth] Hagin that He held the church responsible for the mistakes of Richard Nixon because we did not pray for him as we were told to in the Word of God.
1 Timothy 2:1-4: I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
1 Peter 2:17-18: Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. Slaves, in reverent fear of God submit yourselves to your masters, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.
The fact that God deals with a group through the leader of that group is all throughout the Old and New Testament. One excellent example is in Romans 5:18-19 where God accounts us all sinners IN Adam so that He can account us all righteous who are IN Christ. This federal headship applies to any leader.
Everyone on both sides of authority and submission are to be respected for positions sake:
- Husbands and wives are told how to treat each other.
- Parents and children are told how to treat each other.
- Church leaders and members are told how to treat each other.
- Masters (employers) and servants (employees are told how to treat each other.
When I visit the jails and prisons, I tell inmates to pray for their officers and the Warden. You do not have to like or agree with them, but you need to respect them for their positions sake. God holds us all accountable for the positions He has given us. We don’t lose our salvation over it, but we sure can loose our blessings and some have lost their lives. Not because God was angry with them but the words of their mouth opened a door
for Satan to attack them.
When you pray honestly for the person over you to succeed and leave it to the Holy Spirit, He will go to work on your behalf on the person or issue that concerns you.
When President Obama was first elected, most of my Christian friends called him the Antichrist, a Muslim, and hoped he would get impeached or worse. It took about a year to persuade them that according to Mark 11:23 “you can have what you say.”
You don’t have to bury your head in the sand and pretend that everything is fine when you know full well that it is not. But God does not want us to take matters into our own hands and try to fix things because we don’t believe He sees it or cares. When we try to fix things, God rests. But when we rest things with God, He can fix it.
It is a serious thing to complain against your leaders. The Berlin wall came down when Brother Hagins’ book “The Authority of the Believer” was smuggled in and the pastors started praying for their communist leaders instead of railing against them.
In Jude verses 8-9, Jude is talking about people who despise leaders and authority. Jude refers to Michael the Archangel when disputing with Satan over the body of Moses. He did not bring against him a railing accusation but said “the Lord rebuke you.” Before Satan fell and when he was Lucifer, Satan was Michaels’s superior in rank.
So I prayed for President Obama and I will pray for President Trump.
