John the Baptist began his ministry in the wilderness. Many people lived in the wilderness and in the cities that were scattered about the area. This was the place where John began to announce his message with urgency. Repent because the long awaited Messiah is about to show up.
God uses the wilderness as a quiet place to communicate His message to us and to others. In this quiet state, we can hear God’s voice and to prepare for the ministry He has for each one of us. This is a place where we have to depend on God and not on our own way of thinking.
The ministry of John can be found in Matthew 3:1-2. He was sent to prepare the way for Jesus by preaching in the wilderness. When the long awaited Messiah arrived, Jesus took preaching the gospel even further. Jesus’s ministry was in the city, the synagogues, and also the country side.
If you are a believer, you have the opportunity to witness and to tell the good news of the gospel where ever you are. It can be in the city, the wilderness, or even small towns or villages. God has you right where you need to be to share His good news. Remember a quiet place is necessary to develop your heart toward God and to develop your ear to hear Him better.
Psalms 46:10 helps us to understand to be still to hear and to know that He is God and He has us covered in any situation we may face. Meditation in God’s word is necessary for a us to be ready to speak the master’s message to all humanity just as John did. Remember that you are a believer and you are never alone. He is with you at all times; even when you
are at work. God lives in you and He will manifest Himself where ever a believer is. God will use the believers in any place as a witness to His name.
We as believers shall strive not to be cut off from God’s presence, His word, and His power no matter how big the oppositions are or the circumstances that try to hinder us from announcing God’s plan for man. We should look for opportunities to serve God with our whole self right where we are. Remember God knows where you are and He has put you there for a reason. No matter where you are, God wants you to serve Him. If you are not serving Him, you are gathering dust.
We can accomplish His mission just as John did. We all need our own wilderness. We need quiet time with Him to prepare us for the mission of the day. If you are already serving God, keep on serving Him. If you are not, why not start today right where you are? Ask the Lord to guide you and put the word in your mouth. You must urgently tell the whole world that “I am a forerunner for Jesus Christ’s return. He will return soon.” Can you do this? Absolutely yes you can. Be a forerunner for Christ today!
