We live in a society that doesn’t always put time and effort to asking the questions where do I come from, who made me, why am I here, and what is my purpose. We all need answers to these questions. Unless we look to the Bible for these answers, we will always live in ignorance of the truth and in confusion. Anything else we try will be a dead end.
We all come from the lineage of the first man named Adam; he was the first created person (Genesis 1:26-27). God gave Adam the will to serve Him or reject Him. Adam was one with God in spirit, soul, and body. Adam had no need for anything. God was with Him all the time until Adam decided he didn’t need to be one with God. One thing Adam did not expect was how bad everything would be when he rejected God.
All of the sudden, Adam separated himself from God. He found himself alone, empty, and in a state that Adam had never experienced before. Because all men come from Adam and suffer under this same curse, we are born the same way: separated from God, empty and alone. Adam brought a spiritual death upon himself and us (Romans 5:12). 1 Corinthians 15:2: By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
From the first Adam until today, everyone that is born has sinned and are under Adam’s curse (Romans 3:23). That’s why man needs a savior to restore him to Adam’s original state. Matthew 3:2 brings us John the Baptist’s message of “Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” John asked everyone to acknowledge that they needed a savior and the only way to be saved was through repentance. Repentance means to turn to the truth which is an attitude from the heart, turn from your wicked ways, and receive the good news of the kingdom that is to come. John said there is a new King coming and in him is a kingdom. You can be part of that Kingdom if you receive the good news, but you must first repent.
So what is the Kingdom of God? It is the realm of a true King. His name is Jesus. He is the
ruler sent by God to find man at his worst and offer a way out. This is an everlasting kingdom which will include God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The Kingdom of God is different from the kingdom of man.
In the kingdom of man, everyone wants to be his own god, dependent of himself, and no union with Christ at all. Many have already attempted to live in the kingdom of man and died in their own pride without God (Romans 6:23). These people are waiting for their final judgment where God himself will throw them in the Lake of Fire. Although this may seem harsh, God doesn’t want to judge so harshly. He wants all man to receive His free gift of eternal life which is Jesus Christ. 1 Timothy 2:4: [God] wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
God paved the way by sending his Son to this earth. Right now, you can be a finished product; all you need to do is repent and accept Christ today. This is what John the Baptist was trying to communicate in Matthew 3:2: Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Jesus came and went back to Heaven after He died on the cross and rose from death. He is coming again! 1 Thesalonians 4:16-17: For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
Are you ready for his call today? Are you ready to live for Jesus until He comes again? Will you learn His ways, His truth, and His life going into all the world as a witness for Jesus until He comes? If the answer is yes, receive Jesus today! Let’s all be forerunners of Jesus.
