The Waiting Game.

by Angela Moreno

I hate waiting. Living in a world where everything is so automatic makes it even more difficult to wait. Any time I want something, I just go get it or I save up some money and go get it. We rarely have to wait for anything any more.

God planted a seed in my heart several months ago, but He didn’t tell me about the agonizing wait that was to come with it. He didn’t tell me I’d have to watch other people get the gift I’ve been waiting for and be a gracious person even though my heart hurts. I know at times I feel hopeless and alone like no one understands. I try to hide how I feel, but those who know me best can see behind the fake smile and know something isn’t quite right with me.

We all go through seasons of waiting and they can be extremely difficult. Sometimes we wait for a job after months of unemployment. Sometimes we wait for a home after being homeless for so long. Sometimes we are waiting on something we have dreamed about our whole lives. Waiting can break us down to our very core and make us question everything we think we know.

How do we make it through these rough times of waiting? God has made us a few promises:

  • He is our hope. I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word. Psalm 130:5
  • jimmyTrust Him and Seek His will. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6
  • He sent the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us in our times of need. But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. John 14:26
  • He gives us His love and compassion. So the Lord must wait for you to come to him

so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help. Isaiah 30:18

  • He will never leave us. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5b

  • His timing is perfect and He knows the perfect time for you. [Jesus] replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.”  Acts 1:7

Seasons of waiting can teach us a lot about ourselves and our relationship with God. I have learned a lot during this time.  My want had become an idol in my life. I was so consumed with it that I wasn’t turning to God and trusting Him to fulfill His promise. I’m learning patience and that I can’t have everything I want exactly when I want it. The final thing I’m learning is that Satan loves to play games with our heads and make us feel like God isn’t there. Satan wants to kill, steal, and destroy us (John 10:10).  He worked pretty hard to kill and steal my dream and in the meantime was destroying me emotionally.

Waiting is difficult but when we are in a situation that we have no control over, remember to delight in the Lord. Spend your waiting time with you. He will comfort you and teach you areas that you need to grow.

I leave you with this final promise from God: Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires (Psalm 37:4).

  1. My precious daughter Angela … I can so relate to your wonderful message today. In different ways also. It is also a mom’s greatest desire to see her children’s greatest desires in their heart come true. I wait upon the Lord, & I am trusting our Lord right along with you. I love you sweetheart!
