Sunday: Jesus’ final week.

by Angela Moreno

Today starts the week that changed your life. The week that the ultimate sacrifice of love was made just for you!

Today is Palm Sunday.  The day that begins the week of your redemption. Today the Lamb is brought to His final destination and to His divine purpose.

Matthew 21:1 describes this fateful day.  Jesus has arrived in Jerusalem. He sent his disciples before Him to find a donkey just as scripture stated. Zechariah 9:9: Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—riding on a donkey’s colt.

The crowd knew something big was going on.  However, they could not fully comprehend the reality of what was going on before their very eyes. Their Messiah, the one they had waited so long for, was a lamb being led to slaughter.  Some threw their cloaks on the ground before Him while others laid palm branches on the ground.

The crowd cheered and rejoiced for they believed the Lord had sent Jesus to save them from the rulers of the earthly world. The Pharisees sneered and told Jesus to rebuke the words of the crowd. But Jesus responded: “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!” (Luke 19:40).

Jesus knew how dire the situation was for the people of Israel.  He wept as He approached the city walls. “How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace. But now it is too late, and peace is hidden from your eyes.” (Luke 19:41).

A few short days later, this same cheering crowd would be calling for their Savior’s death.
