I have heard stories of many people receiving an inheritance. Land, houses, jewelry, money, and more are given through inheritance. Some of these people have learned to use their inheritance for good and not let the inheritance change who they are and how they live. Others didn’t have the same outcome and the inheritance meant for good destroyed them.
We see many celebrities who have hit the pinnacle of their careers. They have purchased several homes, expensive jewelry and are seen partying on the town every night. A decade later, they hit rock bottom and have nothing left to show for their hard work and fame.
Growing up in Mexico, I remember a story of people who had a large amount of land. This land was their source of income and they earned a lot of money through their land. They earned so much that they began to use their money to buy expensive items and living a life of luxury. These people were always drinking and partying. Later on, they ended up with nothing. Their lives were broken. Their marriages and kids in a bad place. They were married and divorced many times. Growing up, I thought this was the way everyone was supposed to live and strive for as much money and property as possible. I did not understand what I’m going to share with you today
In the Luke 15:11-32, we read the story of two sons. One son asked his father for his inheritance and went off on his own to live a life of luxury. He quickly went through his money and found out that life wasn’t so easy and went back home. This story shows us that inheritance has always been an issue with people. Some people can take their inheritance and use it well while others blow through it very quickly.
From these stories from the past to today, we should learn that we do not want to end up not appreciating what the Lord God has done for us. God has given us an inheritance that supersedes anything this world has to offer us. He has given us an opportunity to be adopted into the family of God (Ephesians 1:5). This is inheritance is the most important inheritance we will ever receive.
God gave us an opportunity to become His sons and daughters. Because of Jesus Christ, we have an opportunity to live life the way God designed it for us. We should not abuse the privileges God gave us over our bodies, minds, conversations, attitudes, or feelings. We always have a choice and it is beautiful that God gives us that choice. God has given us more than any man can ever offer us. We have the same inheritance give to Jesus given to us. We have been given more inheritance than we can ever imagine.
Today is a good day to meditate on what we have in Christ. Rejoice for the gift of eternal life which is also is part of our inheritance. Meditate on the goodness of God. You will see everything that is trying to surround you and dismay you will fall away. Proverbs 23:7: For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
Rejoice in your inheritance today. This inheritance was given by our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ. The only way to claim your inheritance is by accepting Jesus as Lord of you life. We all need a Savior and we all have a heavenly inheritance we can claim through His gift of salvation.
