Choose healthy living.

What a wonderful experience it is to see Christ as Lord of our lives! Then the process of change begins. Romans 12:1-2 gives us guidance that we need to retrain our minds. The old person is dead and gone. We have a new heart and a new spirit — God’s spirit.

So now we have an assignment: to train our soul and train our bodies. Our soul is where emotions and feelings reside. Our body is where food intake occurs. It is imperative to pay attention to the nutrients we are putting into our bodies. We cannot deny that we are the product of what we eat. We all have different body shapes and types, but we all need the same vitamins and nutrients, especially as we get older. Our bodies need exercise to stay in its top form and to help our bodies burn calories from the food we take in. If we all take diet and exercise seriously, the gyms across our towns would be packed.

fruits-82524_640We were not born with these qualities of healthy eating and regular exercise. We must train ourselves. I believe that God has given us help through our journey here on this earth. 1 Corinthians 3:16 says: Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? This verse tells us that our bodies is the temple of God. The Holy Spirit resides in our bodies. Is your body currently the temple that the very Spirit of God deserves?

We have a responsibility to take care of our bodies, God’s holy temple. We can make better choices. We need to take time throughout your week to feed our spirit and to eat right and exercise so our bodies feel great as well. One thing I’ve noticed is that when I go to the doctor, he usually asks how frequently I exercise. I believe this question is a clue that can help lead us to our destiny with God.

A few things to remember:

  • Think about how you feel now and how you would like to feel. Maybe some bones or muscles hurt or are painful. In some cases, this can be fixed by exercise or just moving around more. Take a walk around your neighborhood.
  • running-1081694_640Learn what nutrients your body needs. Find the food pyramid on the Internet. This is a great guide of how much of each type of food you should eat. By eating a variety of foods from the food pyramid, we can usually get all of the nutrients and vitamins we need.
  • Drink plenty of water. You should be drinking at least half of your body weight in water every day. This will keep you from getting dehydrated and can also help you feel fuller so you don’ overeat.
  • Eat lean meat such as chicken and fish to get the protein your body needs. As you exercise more, your body will need more protein to keep your muscles strong.
  • Vegetables and fruits are important. They keep you muscles relaxed and help with digestion. How about some fruit instead of a sugary items?
  • Strive for 30 minutes of exercise 3-4 days a week. Get out and move about.
  • Find a partner who you can be accountable to. Either a spouse or a friend can help keep you motivated.

This is not a plan, but just a reminder that our bodies need these things to survive and to make us feel better. We feed our spirit through God’s word, worship, and church attendance. We must also feed our bodies healthy foods that nourish our bodies and our minds.

Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you through this. He lives in side of you. Make a choice to live longer, feel better, be at your best, and to look your best. You will be glad. Make a plan and set goals. Help yourself to achieve your goals with God’s help.

We have made the choice to get healthy and would love to hear your success stories too!

Is it possible? Absolutely! God says you can and the time is now.
