The names of God reveals who He is to us.

It’s hard to imagine what its like to be God from Heaven looking down on us from a place where there is no lack or need. God doesn’t see us in a state of lack or need and He wants us to see ourselves the same way because of His Son Jesus.

In the Old Testament, God communicated to people by introducing Himself and using different names. God used those names to reveal who He truly is. He had attributes that portrayed His character. We can learn about the names of God by reading the Old Testament of the Bible.

Many people have said when they get to Heaven they are going to ask Old Testament saints, like Moses, what it was like for God to speak directly to them. I believe that Moses is going to look at us and want to know what it was like to be born again and what it is like to have the Holy Spirit inside of you.

Hebrews 1:1 tells us: Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. God still speaks to us even during our time. He uses His Son Jesus Christ. What a privilege! We still read words from 2000 years ago and hear the words of that Jesus spoke– the words of His Father. In the Old Testament before Jesus was born, God spoke to people and revealed Himself in too many ways. But for us, God speaks directly to us through His son.

Here are some names that God uses in the Old Testament that reveal the true nature and character of God:

And this is just a few of the names that God revealed. There are many more. Every name reveals something special about God to man. Through these names, God expresses that He is everything that we will ever need. To learn about each of theses names that God is known as, I recommend you purchase the book “The names of God” by Marilyn Hickey.

Jesus knew all of these names because Jesus educated Himself of who He was and who the Father was. He often used the names of God to refer to Himself; this was one of the reasons that people wanted to kill him because they felt Jesus was committing blasphemy.

Even though God is all of these names, He revealed Himself and more in Jesus Christ. Ever since Jesus’s resurrection, God continues to reveal Himself to His children through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. As long as we reach out to Jesus and listen to the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we can be assured that we are getting the information that the Father wants us to hear.

God’s more interested in us being than doing — being who He said we are than doing things to please Him. Focus on who you are in Christ.
