I have prayed long and hard for something for almost 20 years. Now that it is within my grasp, my prayer request still alludes me. Apparently my request rubs off on the people around me because I see the very blessing I hope for bestowed upon many people around me.
My mind tells me I’m not worthy of my request and that God is showing me this by not answering my prayer. Last week, He and I had a long talk about why. I came right out and told God that what He was doing was just mean and not how the loving God I know would treat one of His children. My outburst was met with the phrase “my timing is perfect.” I apologized but deep down I still felt that way.
How do we overcome our flesh and trust God even when we feel abandoned and let
down? We continue to wait because His timing is perfect.
God gives us what we need exactly when we need it. Notice that I said what we NEED and not what we WANT. He isn’t a vending machine that we put our request into and He automatically gives our request. God knows every event that will take place in our life and exactly where He plans to lead us. Sometimes our WANT isn’t in His plan for us. Maybe it isn’t the best thing for our life at that time or at any point in our life.
God’s timing is perfect. The Bible tells us to wait on Him and to trust that He has our best intentions at heart. The Bible even gives us verses that remind us to wait on God’s infinitely perfect timing and to trust that He will strengthen us on during our wait:
- Acts 1:7: He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.”
- Isaiah 40:31: But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
- Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart;do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
- Luke 18:27: He replied, “What is impossible for people is possible with God.”
- Ecclesiastes 3:11: Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
-
John 13:7: Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”
God gives us the strength to get through every situation we face in our life. He will give me the strength to get through my emotions and the battle I am having with my flesh. I don’t understand what is going on, but Jesus assures us that someday we will understand. During this time, I just need to rely on His strength and know that He will give me what I need according to His will and plan for my life (Jeremiah 29:11).
How about you? What battle of the flesh are you dealing with? What situation do you not understand in your life? I assure you that your battle will end according to God’s will. His will will be more amazing and magnificent than you can ever imagine.
Can we wait together and just trust God? I think we can. We can lean on each other during those difficult times. We can also lean on our Heavenly Father and have those difficult discussions with Him. God’s always listening and He wants to hear from you.
Remind God that you believe in Him and that you trust Him no matter how long your wait is.

One response to “When your flesh feels God is mean.”
I continue to pray everyday for what I know is in my daughter’s heart. I do believe it’s in God’s timing & the biggest desire in your heart is coming. I love you, I always love reading yours & Antonio’s blogs everyday too.
