In this life, we want everything now. Our lack of patience hinders us in many ways.
I just watched a show that taught me that crocodiles in some areas of the world have to wait 12 months for their next meal. Wildebeest eventually will come to their water hole for a drink. The crocodiles can hear the the wildebeests approach from miles away and they lie in wait under the water until a wildebeests steps foot into the water.
The male leader of the crocodiles is responsible for catching the food for his group. He has one disadvantage though: he is out of practice after not having to hunt for a year. At first, he desperately snaps at the wildebeest trying to catch one. He’s unsuccessful the first few times, but patience and perseverance pays off and he catches a wildebeest off-guard.
We too must learn to be patient and wait for God’s timing in our lives. We have to spend t
ime with the Lord in devotions or reading the messages of the Bible. The Bible tells us exactly what we should do and how we can get through any situation. If we don’t spend time with God, we get out of practice and don’t know how to act in the situations we face.
We must always feed our spirit the spiritual food it desires. This food will nourish us for the day we face.
Here’s a few verses that you can ponder on to nourish your soul today:
- Proverbs 13:4: the diligent soul is richly supplied.
- Colossians 3:16: the word of Christ dwells richly in our heart.
- Colossians 1:11: patience with joy.
- Colossians 3:12: put on patience and kindness.
- Hebrews 6:12: patience inherits the promises of God.
Remember that God’s timing is perfect. We must read His word and stay in His Spirit. We don’t want to be like the crocodile spending extra energy chasing something that we should already know how to do. Stay in practice; read God’s word daily.
