Many of us have heard about the many names of God. Throughout the Old Testament, God is known by many names: Jehova Makkeh, Adoni, Jehovah Rohi, Jehovah Shammah, El-Elohe, El Elyon, and Jehovah Eloheenu just to name a few.

In the New Testament after the victory of Jesus over death and Satan, God the Father crowned Jesus’s name as the ultimate and most powerful name that will ever exist. Jesus carries all of the attributes of each of the names that God is known by in the Old Testament.

In many of his writings, Paul explains why the name of Jesus is above all other names:

• God exalted Jesus above every name. Philippians 2:9
• Jesus is superior to all the Angels. Hebrews 1:4
• Every knee will bow at His name. Philippians 2:10
• Every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord. Philippians 2:11

Each and every name of God is also how Jesus is known. From the very beginning of time, the legacy of Jesus has been ingrafted into the plan of time.

The book “The Names of God” by Marilyn Hickey will give you more insight into each attribute of the names of God and each character trait that He holds. She has done an excellent job of researching each name and understanding who God truly is, His patience, and His love for humanity.

I recommend that you learn more about each of the names of God so you truly understand His love for you and I. Understanding His character and His love will draw you closer to your Heavenly Father.
