Paul encourages Titus to follow God’s will.

Encouragement comes in different ways.

From someone praying the will of God for your life and your family to reminding you of God’s will of forgiveness, we can all be encouraged when we feel like we have the support of another person and the reminder of who God is in our lives.

Looking to others for encouragement and not being a stumbling block for others is important. We all need someone to speak encouragement into our lives to help guide us in the direction we need to go.

Such was the case of Titus. He had a personal advisor, friend, and trustworthy spiritual father to lead him. Titus had a huge calling in life and needed someone to give him the direction to complete his calling. Titus had Paul.

In a written letter to Titus, Paul intended to offer encouragement and wisdom to Titus. Titus endured such extreme oppositions from ungodly people filled with legalistic ways of life. In his congregation, he was in charge. Paul instructed Titus to complete his job of establishing people as overseers in his congregation. These people needed to be godly people who would offer their full support.

Paul described to Titus how these people needed to conduct their lives with each other as believers and how they should act toward those who did not believe. The proper behavior for these believers was based on the facts of the grace of God that brings salvation to all people. Those who believe in Christ are to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives.

Paul’s letter to Titus helped and encouraged Titus to continue his mission in his life. As you read the letter to Titus, your life will be filled with such encouragement to fulfill your God-given assignment, not based on human rules and regulations, but based on the grace of God that has saved you with, anointed you with, and equipped you with the encouragement you need.

If we pay attention and grasp Paul’s heart to Titus, we will continue making progress one day at a time. Read the words of the Father, as well as the Son, that we can find in the Old Testament and the New Testament: “if you have ears, let us hear.” That implies that if we truly hear and adopt a heart of hearing, the doing will take care of itself.
