After I received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in 1994, one of the biggest struggles for me was trying to identify with the new person inside of me, the new person I had become. The instant I received my salvation, I didn’t understand what just happened.
My mind was bombarded with doubt, but my new heart was at peace, so I set aside time to read and study. I read 2 Corinthians 5:17 which explained that I was now a new kind of creation that never existed before. Inside of me was a new reality that I am still discovering even to this day. This new creation in Jesus Christ is one of the most marvelous discoveries a man can experience. According to this scripture, the old had died and the new had just begun.
I was trying to explain to myself and comprehend what the scripture meant. However, it didn’t make sense because my mind had not been renewed with what the word of God said. Throughout the year, I began to accept who God’s word said I am in Christ. Giving the word of God the last say on my identity is much better than trying to make sense of everything on my own. God’s words are His very spirit and all we have to to do is identify with them by accepting the words as the ultimate description of who we are.
The only part we play in our new identity is renewing our minds and allowing the word of God to overtake your thinking accepting the reality of who you are. Don’t argue with the word of God. Accept it, believe it, and confess it and then it will immediately take effect in your life.
We can develop the reality of our identity in Christ by:
- Meditating on it.
- Speaking about our identity.
- Knowing the scriptures.
- Accepting it.
- Believing it.
In John 8:31-32, Jesus said, “if you abide in me and my word abides in you, you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” You will experience a revelation. We need to continue to remind ourselves of the basics of our salvation every day. We must allow God’s word to come alive in our hearts and minds.
Remember, if you have Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He lives inside of you through the Holy Spirit. You are truly a new creation that never existed before. Jesus has truly set you free from death, sickness, and everything that will come against you. Accept your identity, learn it, believe it, speak it, and make it visible to others in your life.
