For many years, I have worked in a place that requires me to interact with guests every day. Through these interactions, I have developed a relationship with many of my regular guests. I’ve seen people come to our restaurant for their first date who eventually got married and had children. I’ve seen these children grow into adults and marry and have children of their own. I’ve cried tears with people whose marriages have fallen apart and guests whose loved ones have passed on to be with Jesus. People come and go over the years, but they all have one thing in common; they are looking for meaning and purpose in their lives.
But the question in everyone’s life points to one thing–the need for God and the salvation that only Jesus can offer to us.
Most of us have the seeds of Christianity planted in our hearts and minds. We know what it means to be saved according to biblical standards, but have difficulties following Christ. Jesus even told us that following Him would not be an easy task but a road packed with struggles. We have to continually seek Him and accept God’s truth. This acceptance isn’t just a one-time acceptance and then we forget everything we learned. We have to accept this truth fully into our lives and let truth have the authority over our families, our lives, and our nation.
Previously we discussed the story of David in the Old Testament. God made a covenant “promise” to David that would one day change history and our very lives. This promise was an eternal kingdom that would come through David’s bloodline. God would send His very own Son to this earth to die for us and set up a new covenant with both Jew and Gentile. This covenant is a promise to each and every one of that we will have eternal life with Jesus as long as we accept His gift of salvation and confess that He is Lord of our lives.
All we have to do is accept this gift. We have to accept Jesus as Lord of our life and confess that we will walk with Him all the days of our lives. We accept the spirit, soul, and body of Jesus. What great news for each of us!
But how can we receive this gift and take part in the new covenant? Romans 10:9-11 explains exactly what we must do to accept this gift.
Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
If you acknowledge this truth and give voice to it with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart, trust in Him, rely, on the truth, and acknowledge that Jesus was raised from the dead, you will be saved. You will be declared righteous before God almighty and acceptable to God. You will be included in God’s new covenant that assures us that we will live forever as sons and daughters of God and will rule with Jesus in His eternal kingdom. This covenant will never be broken once we chose to accept Jesus.
Rejoice and invite Jesus into your heart. Don’t think that just being a good person qualifies you for Heaven. Don’t think that you have done too many bad things to qualify for this forgiveness. We all have one thing in common- Romans 3:23: for fall have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
We are all equally sinful in God’s eyes. We all fall short of the glory of God. However, God just wants to forgive us and love us as a father loves his child.
We all start on the same path and use the same scriptures to find the bridge to God. We accept Jesus as mediator for our salvation now. Just like an attorney in a courtroom, Jesus will stand before the ultimate Judge and plead our case. He will say this person is covered by my blood and I have paid for his or her salvation in full. Jesus will do this for us because we accepted him as Lord and Savior and put our trust in Him while we lived and walked on this earth.
Because of Jesus, we will be granted entrance into God’s heavenly kingdom and live forever. Not as a guilty, sinful person, but as a devoted son or daughter of God. That is the promise and covenant God has made with you and I. Let’s choose to live a life with Jesus now that will take us to our final destination.
