I remember the first time I saw the picture. We were staying the night at my grandma’s house like I had numerous days throughout my childhood. I was a young girl, and that night I took notice of the picture that had hung on the wall for years.
The picture was forever seared into my mind.
Jesus stood at a door without a handle knocking. As I stared at the picture, I felt a stirring in my heart and questions poured out of my young mind. What did this mean? Why didn’t the door have a handle?
I had accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior as a young child, but I still had a lot to learn about Jesus and our relationship with Him. Now as an adult, the picture makes perfect sense to me. It’s the perfect representation of Matthew 7:7-8.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
Every person on the face of this earth has a choice to make—accept Jesus as Lord and Savior or reject Him as Lord and Savior. The choice is ours! There is no gray areas where Jesus is involved. Everything is black and white.
As the picture depicts, Jesus won’t force His way into our lives. He wants us to seek Him and choose Him. Jesus may plant seeds in our hearts and put people in our paths to lead us to Him, but we have to open the door and SEEK Him. Hence the door without a doorknob.
When we seek Jesus with all of our hearts, we will find Him. He’s always available and always ready for us to seek Him. Even when Jesus knew He was going to be betrayed by Judas, He was easy to find. Jesus went to His usual place, the Garden of Gethsemane. He didn’t hide and He was available to do the will of His Father. Jesus never hides and He is available for anyone who seeks Him, even if their intentions aren’t the best.
Before we accept Jesus, He is there knocking on the door to our hearts asking to be let in. We choose to let Him in or to reject His knocking. Once we let Him in, the Spirit of God resides inside of us. The Spirit of God never leaves us even when we choose to do things that aren’t of God’s ways. We may walk with the world for a time while the Holy Spirit urges us to turn our lives back to Jesus. When we repent we don’t have to look too far to find Jesus. He will be right there when you seek Him again.
Anytime we seek Jesus, we will find Him. Jesus is always available and always looking for us to turn to Him. If you have heard Jesus knocking at the door of your heart and haven’t let Him in, now is the time. Jesus is returning soon and we want to be ready when He does. If you are ready to accept Him and to seek Him, watch the video below. Pastor Kim Mills will walk you through a Prayer of Salvation.
Seek Jesus today and open the door to let Him in! It’s a choice you will never regret.
