What is self-worth? Self-worth is the sense of one’s own value or worth as a person.
Some people have decided that their self-worth is tied into this world and what we have in the world. Some people have also adopted the idea that success and self-worth can be achieved away from God. We think that if we have more in the world our self-worth will be obtained.
Many people are too concerned with themselves so much, so that it becomes an obsession with wanting more or what others have. We get jealous of other people’s success and question why we can’t have what the other person has.
Some people have adopted the idea that it doesn’t matter how they get to the top or what it costs. So they lie, hurt others, and become someone they didn’t intend to become. When this occurs, the end result will be disappointment, hurt, and unforgiveness toward others.
There is no way the world system will give you a true self-worth because it is not based on God alone. There is nothing but an empty vessel and us not completely filling the purpose that God has for us.
The question still re
mains: how much is my worth? The world does not control our worth. We can only find our self-worth in God. Self-worth is based on God’s love.
Before I was saved, my self-worth was not what it is today. Back then my biggest question was where am I going to go when I die. I didn’t care about having material things and I didn’t look at what I was worth to God. When I got saved, I found out how much I was worth.
God has spoke about the worth of humanity by His love. Self-worth is God’s love towards us. Here are a few points to remember:
- Before we were created, God saw us as worthy enough to be with Him. In fact, God was willing to pay the price that was necessary for you and me to be with him. He even had his son Jesus in mind if necessary.
- God found us at our worst and still reached out to us.
- Before we were even created, God chose us to be with Him.
- Our self-worth is not determined by us but by what God says about us.
Here are a few scriptures that you can look at to discover your self-worth in God:
- John 3:16
- Ephesians 1:4
- Romans 5:8
- 2 Corinthians 5:14
- Ephesians 2:4
- Galatians 3:13
- Galatians 5:22
- Colossians 2:2
- Colossians 3:14
Paul instructed Timothy to learn and to walk in the love of God. This would provide self-worth for his ministry. 1 Timothy 1:5: The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good
conscience and a sincere faith. In 1 Timothy 4:12 Paul gave Timothy advice on what self worth should look like: Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
Once we achieve self-worth in God, we can ultimately follow what God wants us to do more than anything else: love others unconditionally without expecting anything in return. James 2:8: If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.
It is important to believe and to receive. Trust the one (God) that has your best interest at heart. Don’t let this world system deceive you in any way. Don’t be pulled away. You are stronger in God than what you think.
Is it possible? Absolutely yes you can. Be determined to grow your self-worth in God.
