Words have power. Chose them carefully.

I am so amazed by the language our society uses. There used to be a time when you would rarely hear a derogatory or curse word when you were out in public. Now you hear people freely using derogatory language all around you.

Today there is very little respect for words. Words shape our lives and our words are guided by what we allow to influence us. We use words to come into contract with another or to make agreements that shape our country. Words can determine the growth of a community. We make word vows to each other when we decide to join in marriage. Words have much power.

Words can also hinder our way of life. Some words carry an “I don’t care attitude” or selfish me centered words. Words can breakdown another person or cause much pain in another person’s life. Whether our words are carefully chosen or carelessly thrown about, we have an impact on those around us with the words we choose to use.

The very first words spoken on this planet were from God Himself as He spoke the planet into existence.  “Let there be light” were the first words ever spoken on this planet (Genesis 1:3). Every word that God wants us to hear and listen to are written in His word– the Bible. We have to hold onto the words that can help shape our lives for the better.  These words can only be found in God’s word.

read-1188585_640It is inevitable that words can make or destroy a person. It’s fascinating to read John 1:1 in the Bible. The apostle John states in John 1:1:  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jesus is the word spoken to us. Only through Him can we have a purpose and a destiny.

The apostle James also had a lot to say and had some good advice on words as well. James 1:19-21: Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. Before we speak, we must hear what is said. This isn’t just what the person speaking to you has to say; we must also hear what God is instructing us to do and hear as well.

Together let’s recognize the power of words and use words to build up and not destroy. In the end, you will be glad you did. Try positive words to better yourself and those around you.

Is it possible? Absolutely! Our words have power, both positive and negative power. Use your words to promote the positive power of God Almighty!
