What does it mean to have a good name? On earth, most people strive to make a good family name and to obtain the power associated with a good name.

The last name Trump is very recognizable and can be associated with the president or any of his many business endeavors. People easily recognize the name and either trust or distrust based on their opinion of the name. The last name Trump is powerful and has its own stigma. People have expectations built off of this name.

What about the names Bowerman and Knight? If these men were to walk up to you on the street would you purchase their product sight unseen? The product they sell may very well already be on your feet right now. These men are the founders of Nike. The product is well known, but not the names behind the product. Powerful product name, not so powerful last names.

Names represent prestige, honor, power, and legacy. However, some names are associated with some not so honorable things. We have a tendency to judge people based on what we know about their family name. Sometimes we have good judgments but all too often we have some not so good judgments. When people speak a name, we want to hear good things and not be judged by our past mistakes or our families past mistakes.

No matter what our name is or how much power we think a name holds, there is one name that stands above the rest. Jesus came to this earth and did exactly what His Father asked Him to do without wavering. No name will be held in higher reverence than Jesus Christ and no name will hold more power in the eyes of God. Philippians 2:8-11 confirms the glory of the name of Jesus.

Not one name on this earth is as powerful as the name of Jesus and no name will ever come close. Through the name of Jesus Christ, we are:

• Baptized. (1 Corinthians 1:13)
• Redeemed. (Ephesians 1:7)
• Forgiven. (Colossians 1:14)
• Justified. (Romans 3:24)

There is only one name on this earth that will save us. The name isn’t Trump and it isn’t Bowerman and Knight. No other savior will come to this world and offer us everything that we can find in the name of Jesus.  His name holds power that is unmatched anywhere on this earth.

We must hold the name of Jesus high and appreciate everything His powerful name gives us. Without Jesus, we are just nameless nobodies who are unable to take care of ourselves.  Lean on the powerful name of Jesus Christ and be thankful for the opportunity to inherit your piece of the kingdom of God.

As you go on every day, remember to be thankful that the name of Jesus has been given to you. To inherit, we must pass His name on to others as a testimony that you belong to Him and He belongs to you.  And they can also be part of His marvelous kingdom. Pass it on.
