How to be a disciple of Jesus.

In our previous message, we talked about the call on our lives to truly become a follower of Jesus. Today, we will discuss what the call means and what Jesus expects of us.

Jesus has two requirements for us when we decide to follow Him and to become a disciple of His:

  1. Jesus is inviting us personally to know Him by His presence and His word. By knowing Him personally we will know that Jesus is first in our life.
  2. We must be willing to pick up our cross and to follow Him every day. We have to abide in Him and walk with Him living each day anticipating Jesus’s return for His church.

Walking the road where Jesus walks requires a cross. Our actions and our commitment will determine which road we will take. Our true character will be seen crystal clear. Our lives will be like a mirror where people can see our actions and our character. The world around us will be watching us closely to see how we behave in every situation that we face. Are we acting like Jesus or is our flesh taking over?

We still won’t be perfect and we still won’t make the right decision in every situation, but cross-2279433_640people around us will know that there is something different about us.

Who is your teacher that you are going to follow every day? Is it Jesus? If you choose to follow Jesus every day, commit to the following tips and commit to becoming a disciple every day:

  • Acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord every day from now on.
  • Spend time worshiping alone with no distractions.
  • Commit to reading and meditating on God’s word.
  • Have a quiet time to study God’s word.
  • Be faithful to church attendance and stewardship.
  • Love and encourage others to follow Christ.
  • Share your faith with others.
  • Submit to other disciples and be accountable to other disciples.
  • Become a disciple of others as God gives you the opportunity.
  • Support my church financially by practicing Biblical giving.
  • Pray daily for others that God will bless them spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

There are many other ways to commit to Jesus. Add to the list as the Holy Spirit guides you into becoming the disciple that Jesus wants you to be.
